| I don't like speaking ill of my patients, but I was very, very glad when Lam agreed to discharge Vala and Daniel. I think I saw Daniel mouthing "thank God" as he walked past me on his way to pick up his SGC uniform. They left and the infirmary seemed to still for the first time in a week and a half. Lam and I had the usual routine check-ups, post mission clearances, the experiment not going quiet as expected burns and finally some time to organize our space. I called Area 51 to see how the progress was coming in repairing the Prometheus. I got some young, hot shot Lieutenant who thought I did not have high enough clearance, and had a lovely discussion with her regarding interfering with the routine duty of personnel. I may have dropped 'court martial-able offence' in there a few times. After that she was very pleasant and reasonable. The Prometheus was in stage two of repairs and was expected to be operational in a few weeks. "Thank you, that's all I wanted to know," I said, my head propped up with my hand. "Yes, ma'am. Sorry for the confusion, ma'am," the lieutenant clipped. "Anything else, ma'am?" "No, that's all. Thank you," I repeated, and hung up. I dropped my head fully on the desk and closed my eyes. "You do that long enough, and someone will think you a corpse," a voice said from the door. "Maybe then I can get some respect," I replied. I heard the chair on the other side of the desk slide back and him dropping his frame into the chair. I pictured him actually draping himself in the chair. How did he manage to drape himself in chairs? "Can I help you Cam?" "Maybe. How good are you reviving people from comas?" I looked at him, our blue eyes meeting. "Coma? Whose in a coma?" "Dr. Jackson," he stated. I was up and out of my borrowed office before he could take his next breath. There, beneath a few nurses, lay Daniel. "Back, back, give the man some room. What happened?" "I was walking with him, discussing what the next after mission action was, when he just went down," Cam answered. "I carried him here, hoping he would wake up. But," he gestured to the prone body, "obviously it did not work." I went over to the nearby phone and called Dr. Lee. "Lee, Dr. DeBarr. What were those theories about Jackson and Vala being still linked? Right, well I think your theory may have some validity to it." I turned back to Cam. "Dr. Lee is coming down to see what he can do scientifically. He said that if it happened to Daniel..." "We have to find Vala," Cam concluded. "Right, I'll be back." Cam raced down to the elevators, and to the dialing room, while Dr. Lee came racing down toward me. I picked up the phone once more and called General Landry, knowing I would also find Dr. Lam in his office. - - - "What happened?" Daniel asked. "You passed out," one of the nurses said, batting her eyes slightly. I glanced at her and turned toward Daniel. "You collapsed and Colonel Mitchell brought you in," I said. "How does your head feel?" Lam asked, coming beside me. "Ok I guess. Why am I fine now?" "Well, you know how Vala said that the bracelets connected you together, could not leave each other's side, yadda yadda," Dr. Lee started. Daniel nodded skeptically. "Well it seems that the removal of the bracelets may not have eliminated that fact..." He trailed off as the blue curtain pulled back and Vala wiggled her fingers. "Miss me?" she asked, eyeing Daniel. He glanced over his shoulder and then groaned. Turning back toward us, he grabbed Dr. Lee by the labels of his lab coat, and growled in a low voice, "Fix this." Dr. Lee, pulling back, nodded furiously and scampered from the room. I gave a small nod to Lam and a smile at Daniel before I turned back toward my office. As I closed the door, I heard Vala speak. "I do know someone who could help," she said. It was followed by two groans, and as I settled back into the chair, I imagined Cam and Daniel exchanging exasperated looks. - - - About a week later Cam came sauntering back onto my office. "We're baaack." "'We'?" I asked, checking off a few files. "We. As in: the gang, the posse, the three amigos, and the wannabe. Batman, Robin, his butler and than Batgirl... I never liked the episodes that had Batgirl," Cam said, picking up the small glass globe I had sitting on the desk. "I did not expect it to be like this, Bay." I looked at him, and in mid-air, caught my globe. "Cam, no one said it was easy. I take it you are all ready for your post mission check-ups?" "Do you really have to do them?" "Do you really have to be a baby about it?" "Well... being young does help," he said, cracking into a wide grin. I punched him lightly as he got up. "Let's go flyboy. Don't make me show you how I made SG-3 cry." "The Marines?" he asked curiously. "They have tear ducts. Just because the go out and be macho does not mean a thing when they are in here after missions. They get the same treatment." "Lam mentioned you had a notable bedside manner." "Watch it," I said, pulling the curtain back to reveal Daniel, Teal'c and Vala sitting and standing by the gurney bed. Even so I knew she was back, I still blinked at Vala. "I thought General Landry said you were going to where ever you were going." "So was I," Vala said, rolling her eyes. "But you know how Danny gets when I am not around. All moopy, constantly loosing consciousness... he needs me." Daniel shot her a look that could have killed her - and him inadvertently, Dr. Lee said after doing more tests. "So your contact could not help?" I surmised. "Surprise, surprise," Daniel muttered. Turning to me, he said, "No. We are like this until Dr. Lee, or you and Dr. Lam can find some way to reverse this, or make it null. I find it great joy in being bound to a madwoman." He said the last words while glaring at Vala, who for her part, was filing her nails. "Oh you love me, Danny. You can't wait to make babies with me; stop denying it," she said, giving a sultry look toward Daniel. Cam and I exchanged a glance, while Teal'c stood motionless. I gave them their shots, starting with Daniel first who muttered 'thanks,' and darted out of the infirmary, and watched as they left. I marveled once more that this was a team, once upon a time with General Jack O'Neill and Colonel Carter, seemed to successfully save the world time and time again. |
